Non-healing wounds — particularly chronic wounds associated with diabetes, vascular disease, or prolonged immobility — require specialised training in wound assessment, debridement, advanced wound dressings, and infection management. ABET Life's home health care wound care nurses have specialised training in wound management and operate under a registered nurse supervisor and the treating physician's care plan.

ABET Life's wound care team provides in-home wound care services for a wide range of wound types. Our nurses adapt the treatment plan to the wound type, the patient's underlying health conditions, and the healing status observed at each visit.

Post-Operative Care

Surgical Wounds and Post-Operative Wound Care

Patients discharged from Houston hospitals after surgery, including procedures performed within the Texas Medical Center, may require skilled wound care during recovery. ABET Life nurses provide incision assessment, dressing changes, infection monitoring, ordered suture or staple removal, and wound-healing documentation for the treating surgeon. Early identification of infection, wound separation, or delayed healing is an important part of each nursing visit.

Diabetes-Related Wound Care

Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Diabetic foot ulcers are a serious wound type managed in home health care. Diabetes can increase complication risk because peripheral neuropathy may reduce sensation while impaired circulation can slow healing. ABET Life wound care nurses assess the ulcer at each visit, monitor tissue condition and infection indicators, and coordinate treatment with the patient's physician or wound care specialist.

Venous ulcers generally develop on the lower leg because of impaired venous circulation and chronic venous insufficiency. Arterial ulcers result from reduced arterial blood flow and require a different clinical approach. ABET Life nurses apply ordered dressings, monitor circulation and tissue viability, document wound changes, and coordinate with the vascular specialist or primary care physician.

Wound VAC — Negative Pressure Wound Therapy

Wound VAC therapy uses controlled negative pressure for wounds that require advanced treatment. ABET Life nurses provide device setup, ordered dressing changes, pressure-setting verification, seal checks, drainage monitoring, and observation for complications. Home visits allow Houston patients to continue prescribed negative-pressure therapy outside a hospital or skilled nursing facility.

Pressure Injuries, Pressure Ulcers and Bedsores

Pressure injuries can develop when a patient with limited mobility experiences prolonged pressure over bony areas. ABET Life nurses provide care for pressure injuries at different stages using ordered wound dressings, repositioning schedules, pressure-relief strategies, skin assessment, and caregiver education adapted to the patient's mobility and health needs.

Chronic Wounds and Non-Healing Wounds

Chronic wounds do not progress through the expected healing stages within the usual timeframe. They are more common in patients managing diabetes, vascular disease, lymphedema, immunosuppression, or poor nutrition. ABET Life nurses assess wound progress and contributing health factors, provide ordered advanced wound care, and communicate with physicians, vascular specialists, endocrinologists, and wound care centers when treatment adjustments are needed.

Ostomy and Colostomy Care

Patients with a colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy may need skilled nursing support for the stoma and surrounding skin, particularly following surgery or when leakage, irritation, or other complications develop. ABET Life nurses provide stoma assessment, ostomy appliance changes, peristomal skin care, and practical education that helps patients and family caregivers manage the ostomy safely at home.

Specialty care where you are

Our skilled clinicians help patients actively manage their own recovery, lowering their chances of hospital readmission.  AbetLife also provides Home Health Aide services under the supervision of Skilled Nurses. Home health aides may also help you with day-to-day care needs, such as bathing, dressing, light housekeeping, or light meal preparation.


These services will be conducted in coordination with your physician.
